Biscuits and Honey

What can be better than biscuits and honey?  A good book.
Last week while we were doing our insect unit we read the book “The Bee Tree” by Patricia Palacco.  This is a story about a Grandpa and granddaughter and their adventure finding the bee tree.  Soon they get all sorts of neighbors to join them as the chase 3 bees to the bee tree.  The Grandpa wants to teach his granddaughter that there is such sweetness inside of books, just like the taste of sweet honey from the bee tree.  At the end of the book everyone comes back to the house and they make Baking powder biscuits and eat them with honey from the tree.
I had wanted to make the baking powder biscuits last week but we didn’t get to it until today.  It was super easy and fun!  And of course we put honey on our biscuits.
Here is the recipe I used, in case you want to make them.
Baking Powder Biscuits
3/4 cup milk
2 cups of all purpose flour
4 tbsps of shortening, lard or vegetable oil
4 tsps baking powder
1 tsp salt

Sift flour once; measure; add baking powder, salt and sift again.  Cut in shortening.  Stir in milk.  Drop biscuits onto cookie sheet and bake.  bake in a 475 degree oven for 12-15 minutes.  Makes about 12 biscuits.
Hope you enjoy.
