Gearing Up for the New Year – Bible

I have bought most of the curriculum for the coming year.  I am in the process of gearing up for the coming year.  We have been very busy here with fun summer activities.  In the back of my mind I am already planning out what needs to be done and prepared before we start.  I don’t have an official start date.  I am thinking we will pick up sometime in July.  SLOWLY.  I am really just waiting to see how we are all doing once all our activities wind down.

One of the resources we are using is What’s in the Bible.   It is a series that starts with Genesis and will take you all through the Bible.  They just released the dvd with Psalms and Proverbs in it.  I really like this series.  It gives a good foundation and it is fun and silly and my kids love it.  We have only watched the first 2.  On the What’s in the Bible website there are coloring pages that go along with the dvds.  It also have some helpful resources for the parents.  If you would like a 20% coupon click on this link and you will take you to a 20% coupon.  Phil Vasser is the one behind the scenes of this video series.   He is also the same guy behind the scenes of Veggie Tales. We are going to watch the first 2 videos again and dig deeper this coming year.

Sparks Curriculum Sample

Awana is something else that we are going to continue doing.  This year will be Mickey’s second year in Sparks.  She loved it last year.  I think that this year she will be a Wing Runner.  One thing that we did last year that helped her with her verses is download the music to the verses for this year’s book.  It is amazing how this really helps her remember her verses. I get to learn them too.  Smile

So this is what we are planning on using for Bible this year.  I am sure that along the way there will be modifications and changes.  But at the starting line up this is where we sit.

Life has definitely been different than normal lately.  We have been getting up and heading out the door for different activities.  Mickey had 2 weeks of dance camp, which she had a blast.  Now we are full swing into swim camp.  Swimming is something we love as a family so it is nice that she is learning to swim.  I hear people talk about the lazy days of summer and we have not experienced that.  This week, Nate is going to start swim class on Fridays.  So yeah, we are busy people over here.

I am thinking that we will take a week or two to enjoy those lazy days of summer.  Then we will slowly ease back into school. I am excited about the coming year. I think that it is going to be a good one.  I am working on a post that will detail what our plan is for the coming year.  I am sure that there will be adjustments along the way.  But that is part of the adventure.

Mr. Rogers

Growing up Mr. Rogers was my favorite show.  I remember asking to watch it but my dad wanted to watch something else.  It was at that point I decided to save my money to buy a TV.  I was probably 4 when the that idea came to me.  I was 12 when I finally earned enough money to buy a TV.  A TV that I still have although in the world today is not as functional.  You know it was turn dial with no remote and rabbit ears.  Even though I was too old at that point to watch Mr. Rogers, I watched him.

As an adult I still enjoy watching an episode of Mr. Rogers.  I love his kind spirit and his love of children and imagination.  I saw an article about this youtube video and I found it and thought I would share with it with you.

Drink and Dessert Time

uh-oh.... This post was supposed to go on my family blog.  Sugar and Puppy-Dog Tails.  If you would like to see the photo a day project I am doing.  You can head over there.
I missed yesterday’s photo.  But I decided to go ahead and take the picture today.  Yesterday prompt was Drink. I have pretty boring drinks.  I drink tea or water.  Tonight I mixed some lemonade with my raspberry tea and it turned out good.  It also turned a really pretty pink color.  So I took a picture.
Today’s prompt was 6:00.  I am not a morning person.  So I was up this morning but not a happy camper.  We had no where to be today so I was hoping that my two beautiful children would sleep.  I was able to get my son back to sleep but I was unable to.  Just when I was able to get back to sleep my daughter accidently woke me up and then my son woke up.  So, I was not in the picture taking mood this morning.
This evening is better.  It is better for many reasons.  My hubby is on his way home after being gone for 2 weeks.  My house does not look like a tornado went through it. My kids ate their dinner and did not complain.  And did I mention my hubby is on his way home???  So I decided after dinner we would do a special dessert.
Smores.  I have to say that they are sooooo much better when you are camping out and around the campfire.  The marshmallows are just better that way.  However, since I don’t know when I will be around the campfire, making them in the microwave will just have to do.  My kids loved them.  Nate is a huge mess.  So this is how we spent our 6 pm.  How did you spend yours?
