Fire Station Visit

We have been wanting to join the local homeschool group for some time but scheduling has not worked out.  The visit to the Fire Station was our first visit with them.  We had a blast.  Well except for Nate.  Mickey was excited to be with other kiddos her age.

We went to Fire Station #6 with Crew C.  They told us that they were the best crew and station in the city and really in the whole world.  They also told us that their favorite treat was ice cream.  The kids got a kick out of that.

Showing the kids the hoses on the truck.

Getting some hands on experience.  (the face is colored out because I don’t know that young girl or her momma)

Pulling out the truck to turn on the siren.  I just knew that Nate would love it but he was too sick to care.  Mickey did okay with the noise.  I think that it was because she was warned.

The obligatory picture of the kids next to the fire truck. I don’t think that I was getting a happy pic from my little guy.

If I had known he was sick we would not have gone.  I am hoping that since he didn’t interact with anyone and stayed in his stroller that he didn’t get anyone else sick.

Snow Days

We live in the desert so we don’t get much snow.  I grew up in an area that had more snow that we get now.  Today, they are experiencing a snow day.  I remember as a kid waiting to hear if school would be cancelled.  Now being a home schooling family we don’t have that same anticipation for school being cancelled.  But since snow is so rare we go out and enjoy it.  Even if it is barely nothing.  My husband grew up in Denver and they had snow.  So much more snow than I can even imagine.

In the beginning of January we had a snow day.  We got out and enjoyed it.  The kids played and I took pictures to prove that someday that they did enjoy the snow.

As you can see there is not that much snow to talk about.  But at least Mickey got to build a little, tiny snowman. Stuff childhood memories are made of.

Head over to my family blog to see more snow fun pictures.

My Sick Boy

Nate is NEVER sick.  He is 2 1/2 years old and has been sick maybe 3 times.  Of those three time he has been on antibiotics once for a minor ear infection.  The next time was for a stomach flu and then this last week he was sick with a cold sort of thing.

My Nate usually is like this….

All Smiles

But last Thursday, we went on a homeschool field trip to the Fire Station and my boy was anything but smiles.  I found this a little odd and wondered if he was just tired and needed to rest.  But I thought that he would be very excited to see the fire truck and to hear the siren.  NOPE.  He was not excited at all.  He fell asleep and then woke up in time to see the fire truck.  He was able to go in but he was not at all interested.  The next day we woke up to fevers, sore throat and a trip to the doctor.  His ears and throat were okay and we headed into a long weekend of a grumpy Nate and long nights.

Grumpy Nate

We watched a lot of Lion King and had a lots of snuggles.  I am happy to report that my grumpy sick boy is now feeling better.  He is feeling well enough to play with his Big Sister and even fight with her.  Yes, things are getting back to normal around here.

Getting back into the Groove

I hope you had a wonderful Holiday break.  We took it real slow in December. We made lots of cookies, did some crafts, and just enjoyed each other in the midst of a busy time.  I am thankful that we had the time to take things slow but still able to get learning in.  Even if the learning looked different than normal.

We had time to be thankful when my hubby was in a car accident and his car was totaled.  This happened just before Christmas.  The Lord was with him as he was able to walk away with just a small burn on his arm from the air bag.  When you have a husband that is on the road many weeks of the year this is something that is on your mind, a lot.  Thankfully we got it all worked out by the beginning of the New Year.

Getting back to the school schedule has been easier than I thought it was going to be.  We were all ready to get back to school.  Mickey was using Reading Egg in December to keep up her reading.  I was pleasantly surprised how well she is doing now that we are in the regular reading work.

Product DetailsWe have also started our second book with Real Science for Kids with Mickey.  We are using the lapbook that they sell on their site.  We are loving this.  It is making learning the concepts so much easier.  We read a section of the book and answer the one or two questions on her lapbook.  It is colorful and she loves it.  Science is already her one of her favorite subjects.
